FOTO: CARINICI U KOFERIMA OTKRILI 1500 ŽIVIH KORNJAČA Najvjerojatnije su švercane iz Hong Konga, a putnik se prepao i ostavio ih na aerodromu

Filipinska carina je u nedjelju u međunarodnoj zračnoj luci u Manili u nekoliko kovčega otkrila više od 1500 živih kornjača, izvijestili su u ponedjeljak carinski dužnosnici.

U četiri kovčega ostavljena u zračnoj luci Ninoy Aquino pronađeno je ukupno 1529 živih gmazova, a vjeruje se da pripadaju putniku koji je onamo doputovao iz Hong Konga.

Ondje je bilo nekoliko zvjezdanih kornjača, više crvenonogih kornjača, nekoliko afričkih kornjača i nekoliko crvenouhih kornjača, izvijestili su u ponedjeljak iz carinskog ureda.

"Putnik je možda unaprijed bio obaviješten o rigoroznosti carinske službe kada je posrijedi ilegalna trgovina divljim životinjama, kao i o strogim kaznama, zbog čega je vjerojatno u zračnoj luci ostavio četiri kovčega", stoji u priopćenju zračne luke.

Filipinska vlada svim se snagama bori protiv krijumčarenja i trgovine divljim životinjama, uključujući i kornjače. Vlada je donijela Zakon o zaštiti divljih životinjskih vrsta u zemlji.
